NLA pleased with government buy-to-let backing

A speech by a government minister in favour of the buy-to-let
sector has been welcomed by the National Landlords Association
(NLA).
Speaking last weekend at the NLA conference in Birmingham, housing
minister Iain Wright said the sector is a "great tool to help house
the people of this country" and that he hoped to see it "not just
survive over the coming months and years but thrive".
He also stated that the government will not introduce any
legislation that will harm the interests of good landlords.
Welcoming the speech, NLA chairman David Salusbury said it marked a
new, more positive phase in relations between the industry and the
government.
He stated: "The trench warfare, which has so often marked
discussions between decision-makers and landlords, is now behind
us."
New evidence recently showed that the number of people renting is
continuing to increase.
Figures from the Association of Residential Lettings Agents
quarterly survey covering the three months to the end of August
this year showed that during that period the number of renters rose
by 20 per cent.
