Official housing statistics report 'should be produced'

An official property statistics report should be produced so that
homebuyers, proprietors and estate
agents can have a better understanding about the market.
That is according to the National Statisticians' Review of House
Price Statistics which was released last week, calling for one set
of property results.
"A single definitive house price index and accompanying statistics
should be produced by the official statistics producer community,"
it recommended.
The group stated that this would provide "greater clarity and
understanding of the broad range of house price information".
It added that the official statistics report would present and
analyse house values and the wider property market.
Director of The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries Robert
Sinclair agreed that one definite house price index should be
established, saying that the many statistics available to estate
agents, buy
to let owners and potential homeowners often come to separate
conclusions as the figures are taken at a variety of times and by
different means.
